Originally developed by the U.S. Navy to transport and care for marine animals, Joerns’ Dolphin Fluid Immersion Simulation (FIS) System is a one-of-a-kind therapeutic system for patients with varying needs. The Dolphin FIS System mimics buoyancy in three levels of volumetric engagement with the patient. This helps to maximize the patient’s blood flow while feeling like they are floating on water.
The Dolphin FIS System is a high-end system that delivers high-end results. The Dolphin FIS system benefits the user by reducing vertical sheer and minimizing soft tissue deformation. The FIS system within the mattress uses active Laser Doppler Flowmetry (LDF) to analyze and the adjust the surface to remove pressure allowing normal blood flow to all skin surfaces, saving fragile skin, and promoting wound healing. This system is also ideal for users who have had flap surgery or skin grafts. Because of the versatility of this system, it helps relieve pressure sores (up to stage four), as well as recovery with stabilized spinal cord injuries (with doctor approval). If you are at risk for pressure sores or skin breakdown, the Dolphin FIS System can be a preventative measure to ensure that will not happen.
A unique feature of this system is that once the patient is transferred onto the surface, the system automatically adjusts to the patient’s weight and the surface area to maximize the benefits. The easy-to-use controls allow for the caregiver to adjust the firmness and ensure total patient comfort. Along with the easy controls, the Dolphin FIS System is easy to set up and user friendly. There is a three-hose connection and a CPR mechanism for easy deflation. The control panel has a simple interface with LED indicators to keep the caregiver informed.
